VIDEO: Rep. Rashida Tlaib in Fullerton

The Arab American Civic Council hosted a dialogue with Rep. Rashida Tlaib at Fullerton’s Maverick Theater on Saturday, October 23, 2019. The event was meant to target college students in local campuses – including Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, and UC Riverside – to have a Q & A session with the Congresswoman.

Students and young activists engaged in a dialogue with the Congresswoman who addressed various issues emphasizing the importance of communicating with elected officials on local and federal levels in a language that they would understand.

She also urged students to work together in building movements locally in order to create real change for all of our diverse communities.

The Congresswoman encouraged building local movements to push elected officials do the right thing. She provided an example in President Trump’s impeachment and gave credit to local organizing for the hearings to happen.

Rashida Tlaib, the first Palestinian-American woman elected to Congress, represents Michigan’s 13th congressional district as a Democrat. She serves on the House Oversight and Reform Committee.
