The State of California has the largest Arab American population in the nation with a population that exceeds 373,000 according to the US Census Bureau. Other sources of research (AAI) put California Arab American community numbers at over 715,000. Close to half of them reside in the Greater Los Angeles Area. However, Arab Americans have faced many challenges that led them to become intimidated and hesitant to participate in the democratic process. The root causes of these challenges are marginalization, structural racism, and lack of familiarity with the U.S. political system.
The Arab American Civic Council envisions empowered Arab American communities living with dignity in an America that is just and equitable for all. Our long term civic engagement goal is to move Arab Americans from disenfranchisement to full civic participation. Arab Americans will be stronger with increased participation from all of the unique sub-groups and neighborhoods in the Greater Los Angeles Area.
