Fullerton proclaims April Arab American Heritage Month

This past Tuesday, April 2nd, the Fullerton City Council issued a proclamation recognizing April as Arab American Heritage Month for the first time in the city’s history. Mayor Jesus Silva and newly-elected Arab American Councilman Ahmad Zahra presented the proclamation to AACC Executive Director Rashad Al-Dabbagh on behalf of the Arab American community. In addition, Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva’s office representatives were present to provide a certificate of recognition for this accomplishment.

During a time of heightened bigotry, and misunderstanding towards the Arab American community, it is imperative that we educate the public to embrace our culture, dispel stereotypes, and empower our Arab American community.

In addition to Fullerton, Anaheim Union High School District, the California State Senate, and the City of Anaheim also declared April as Arab American Heritage Month.
