Civic Education

We recognize the importance of civic engagement.  Many Arab community members lack the knowledge of the U.S. political system and how it functions on the local, state, federal levels. In particular, many of the immigrant Arab community do not engage in the political process due to their misconceptions and fear of government having lived in countries where political activity was prohibited and may lead to imprisonment or torture.  This lack of knowledge and fear of political engagement has helped maintain an unequal system.

The Arab American Civic Council conducts community workshops directed towards the Arab American community to facilitate their civic participation on the local, state, and national levels. The interactive workshops are hosted in person and virtually on various topics, including:

  • Congressional advocacy
  • Delivering effective public comment to persuade legislators
  • How to request a ‘proclamation’ from your City to champion your cause
  • Getting Out The Arab Vote
