Byeđź‘‹ 2020! [Year in Review]

The Arab American Civic Council is powered by your generosity to sustain our work and build a better future for the Arab American community.

Below are highlights of what we’ve accomplished with the support of our community this year!

We Mobilized 20,000+ Arab American Voters

Our largest Get Out The Vote (GOTV) campaigned yet was in 2020. We mobilized more than 3,500 Arab American households to vote in the primaries, and more than 20,000 in general elections via door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and text messages targeting Arab American voters.

Our team conducted door-to-door canvassing leading up to the primary elections, before the COVID-19 pandemic. Phone and text banking were used in the general elections.

Launched the Campaign to Designate Little Arabia

Little Arabia is a commerce center and a cultural destination that is yet to be officially designated by the City of Anaheim. We are leading a campaign to urge Anaheim City Council members to move forward with the designation.

Responded to the COVID-19 Pandemic

We responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by creating a bilingual COVID-19 Arab Community Resource Guide to assist Arabic-speaking community members navigate resources available due to the lockdown. This effort was completed with the support of many volunteers and several organizations.

Mobilized our community to end the bigoted Muslim Ban

We continued our advocacy to end Trump’s Muslim Ban by responding to the expansion of the Ban, co-sponsoring a petition to Congress to end it, and hosting ‘BANDEMIC‘ – a virtual panel discussion to address how the Muslim Ban is impacting our communities.

Solidarity with Black Lives Matter

Stood in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd and the nationwide protests that erupted. We co-hosted virtual discussions, joined rallies, and co-sponsored a petition to address police violence.
