The Arab American Civic Council Denounces Trump’s Dangerous Proposal for Ethnic Cleansing in Gaza
The Arab American Civic Council strongly denounces President Donald Trump’s proposal to “take over” the Gaza Strip and forcibly expel its Palestinian residents, which he announced during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, February 4th.
The proposal is not only an outrageous display of imperial overreach – it directly implicates the United States in ethnic cleansing and genocide. By calling for the forced removal of Palestinians and the destruction of their homes, Trump is endorsing policies that violate international law, dehumanize Palestinian lives, and erase their right to self-determination.
Bringing U.S. troops into the Middle East has repeatedly proven to be a failed and destructive move. The Brown University Cost of War Project highlights the staggering economic cost of U.S. involvement in the region – $22 billion in taxpayer money has already been spent on Israeli troops murdering Palestinians in Gaza, with the total cost of post-9/11 wars reaching $8 trillion. Beyond dollars and cents, these wars have resulted in mass civilian casualties, destabilization, and long-term destruction of entire societies.
For Arab Americans, who have seen their homelands turned into battlegrounds under the pretext of “nation-building” or “security,” this proposal is yet another reminder that military intervention has never been about fostering peace or stability. Arabs and Arab Americans stand with the rest of the world in rejecting Trump’s proposal of ethnically cleansing Gaza. Instead, we urge Trump to work directly with Gazans and Palestinians to bring new life back to Gaza.
The AACC stands firmly against any U.S. complicity in ethnic cleansing, occupation, or forced expulsions. We call on elected officials, policymakers, and the international community to reject Trump’s dangerous rhetoric and commit to policies that uphold justice, sovereignty, and human rights for Palestinians.
