CA Senate Recognizes Advocacy for Palestine in Historic Arab American Heritage Month Resolution

In a historic moment of recognition and celebration, the California State Senate passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 42, introduced by Senator Tom Umberg, officially proclaiming April 2025 as Arab American Heritage Month and recognizing Little Arabia in Anaheim as a cultural and economic hub for Arab Americans.

The Arab American Civic Council (AACC) was invited to the Senate floor to receive the proclamation. Representing the organization were Executive Director Rashad Al-Dabbagh, Policy and Advocacy Coordinator Amin Nash, and respected community leaders Mirvette Judeh and Moe Sarama. Their presence underscored the significance of this resolution for the Arab American community, not only in Southern California but across the state.

In addition to honoring the rich contributions of Arab Americans to California’s cultural fabric, SCR 42 highlights the community’s unwavering commitment to justice and human rights. As the resolution states:

“WHEREAS, Arab Americans are unwavering in their dedication to supporting their families and friends in Palestine by organizing and advocating for aid and lasting peace in Gaza, demonstrating their commitments to justice and human rights, and advancing United States diplomatic relations in the Middle East and around the world.”

This recognition affirms the community’s critical role in advocating for peace and dignity for Palestinians, and for a more just U.S. foreign policy.

This milestone is a testament to the power of community-led advocacy and the growing visibility of Arab Americans in public life. It also serves as a reminder of the continued work needed to uplift voices fighting for peace, equity, and dignity—at home and abroad.
